Update #12 - Creating to destroy
Hello!
A while ago I showed you a page of wreck sketches I had done (in fact here's the update) and for the last few weeks I've been working on putting one together - the satellite array!
This is the initial drawing I made, showing the array as it would have been, and how I want the destroyed version to look:
Well, here's the 'before' version in editor so far:
Now normally I wouldn't create an undamaged version of a wreck and then damage it, and I definitely won't be doing that for the big 'internal' wrecks, but this one was slightly different as it is a very unique structure compared to the spaceships you will find.
I needed to build it fully functional first, so I could see it as a whole entity. Now that I have, I can figure out the best way to 'wreck' it: where beams will rip, where cables and pipes pass to be broken, which satellite dishes and masts will be damaged, etc. That's going to be the next fun task :)
Also been setting up the basic waypoints and dialogue triggers for the level, while trying out some simple UI designs:
I'm also planning to do a 'fake wreck' over the next couple of months. So not one of the wrecks you will encounter in the game, but a mock-up containing several different navigation and puzzle types slotted together. This will give me an idea of the best corridor sizes and shapes, distances between areas, how damaged a location can be before it becomes difficult to orientate yourself and find a way out, and other useful bits of level design info for the game.
You know what? It's starting to come together!
Tony.
