March update #1


Hello!

Almost a month since the last update already. What the heck is going on with that? Anyway, I've been pretty busy with stuff on PENITENCE, so let's fire off some bullets:

  • Updated the main menu cycle cameras for all three locations in the demo
    • Meaning whichever level you quit from, when you go back into the game, that level will load under the main menu and cycle through some lovely environment cameras
  • Pause menu bugs fixed
    • Preventing interactions on any UI that was below it in draw order - so dialogue bubbles, notepads and terminals
  • Pickup object zoom to camera
    • There is currently only one object to pick up and carry, but as it's so small thanks to the camera angle and distance, I wanted to show it to the player - so now the object zooms in towards the camera to reveal itself!
  • Updated the dialogue response menu to match the black speech bubbles:


  • Lots of logic in the Medical area to do with the computer password puzzle
  • Big art and lighting pass: added a new room in first area, various tweaks and fixes to stuff, light baking in Medical (for lots of little lights in the darkness) - here's the finished first area:


  • And also doing an art and lighting pass on the second and third scene

So, what's next? Well, I've got to finish off the art and lighting pass, and I've got one piece of 3D modelling I need to do with some Synty character models (swapping heads). THEN I've got two bits of animating to do - something simple, functional, that I can expand on later. 

After that, it's audio work - getting the correct SFX and music in there.

And after that... release the demo?
